About Me
Hi! I’m melissa
Language assistant
As a native English-speaker born and raised in the United States, I have a background with a wide-range of experiences within the legal field, community participation, organizationS, civic engagement, and education.
Luckily, my journey has brought me to Spain where I earned a Masters in Teaching in 2020. I currently work as a Language Assistant in the public school system. Since I arrived in Spain in 2018, I have gained experience in teaching elementary school learners (“primaria”) and high school learners (“secondaria”) in Spain. I also take pride in mentoring learners who may be interested in specific areas of professional interest.
In my personal time, I am taking advantage of immersing myself in Spanish culture by learning Castilian and I am pursuing the development of my interest in music and dance. I am studying music theory in Flamenco, taking Sevillanas dance classes, and exposing myself to an array of musical instruments. I am also advancing my education by working towards various certifications and music-related classes which I plan to combine as an educator in the near future.

My Teaching Philosophy
As an advocate for learners, I believe in using a holistic approach to education. All aspects of a person’s education including, psychological factors, social influences, family dynamics, and life experiences, are all variables that should be considered as contributors to a student’s learning style.
My aim is to enhance my understanding of the perceived strengths, weaknesses, and inadequacies of the learner to help take them to the next-level in cross-cultural education. I believe guiding them to push past their comfort-zone will empower them to challenge themselves and the world around them in a meaningful way.
